Privacy policy

Jev Slots is operated by elif else. This policy explains what personal information the site collects, why, and what your rights are. If you have any questions about it, email gabriella@elifelse.org.

Information we collect

If you browse the site, we collect no personal information. There is no account to create, no login, and this site sets no cookies.

If you make a donation, we store the amount, the time it was received and Ko-fi's transaction reference.

Ko-fi sends us a notification when a payment completes, containing your Ko-fi account name, your message, and other account details. We read the verification token, the transaction reference, the amount, and a name in quotation marks if you put one in the message. Everything else, including your Ko-fi account name and the rest of the message, is discarded and never stored.

A name only appears on this site if you deliberately typed it in quotation marks after being told that is what it is for. If you do not, the donation is listed as Anonymous.

How we use it

A quoted name is used only to show it on the scrolling bar on this site, which is the purpose you gave it for. The transaction reference is used to avoid recording the same payment twice. We do not use your information for marketing, we do not profile you, and we do not sell or share it.

Payments

Payments are processed by Ko-fi and their payment providers. This site never receives your card details, email address or billing information, and cannot charge or refund you. Ko-fi's handling of your data is covered by their privacy policy.

Moderation of display names

A submitted name is checked before it is published, using a profanity filter, a check for links and contact details, and a content moderation service provided by OpenAI. Only the name itself is sent for that check.

Analytics

We count page views using Umami. It sets no cookies, does not store IP addresses, does not track visitors between websites and does not build a profile. It tells us how many people viewed a page and nothing about who they were.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Netlify, who process server logs, including IP addresses, in the ordinary course of delivering it. We do not use those logs to identify visitors.

The public dataset

This site publishes a dataset of the decisions Jev makes. It contains no information about donors. A donation appears in it only as an amount and a timestamp.

How long we keep it

Records of payments that are never claimed are deleted an hour after they arrive. A published display name is kept until you ask us to remove it or the project ends. The dataset is kept indefinitely and contains no personal information.

Your rights

You can ask us to correct, anonymise or delete your display name at any time, and you can ask what we hold about you. Email gabriella@elifelse.org with enough detail to identify the entry, such as the name shown and roughly when you donated.

Removing a name does not reverse the donation, which was genuinely paid. Refunds are handled by Ko-fi.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it.

Terms of use

What this site is

Jev Slots is a demonstration project. An AI model plays a simulated slot machine with a simulated balance, and its decisions are displayed and published. The site is provided as it is, free of charge, with no guarantee that it works, stays available, or keeps behaving as it does today.

This is not gambling

You cannot place a bet, win money, or withdraw anything on this site, and no payment buys a chance at anything. The only participant is software and its balance is a number in a simulation.

Donations

Donations support elif else and are processed by Ko-fi under their terms. Separately, the site adds an equal figure to the simulated balance. This creates no entitlement, no ownership, no stake, and no right to direct what happens next. Nothing in the purchase log is real and nothing is delivered to anybody. Donations are not refundable through this site.

Display names

Submitting a name is a request to display it, not a guarantee. It may be refused, edited or removed. Do not submit contact details, links, personal information, or anything belonging to somebody else, and do not submit a name that impersonates a real person, a company, or this project.

Who this is for

This site is not intended for children. If you struggle with gambling, a page that animates a slot machine continuously may not be a good place to spend time, even a simulated one. In the United States, the National Problem Gambling Helpline is 1-800-522-4700. In the United Kingdom, GamCare is 0808 8020 133.

The dataset

The published dataset is released under CC0 and may be used for any purpose, including commercially, with no attribution required and no warranty as to its accuracy or completeness.

Liability

The site and the dataset are provided without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, elif else is not liable for any loss arising from using either. Nothing here limits liability where the law does not allow it to be limited.
