What this site stores about you
If you never donate: nothing. No account, no cookie set by this site, no profile.
If you donate and choose to be listed: the display name you typed and whether you asked for the amount to be shown.
If you donate and type no name: the amount and the time it arrived.
What is never taken from Ko-fi
Ko-fi sends a notification when a payment completes, containing the donor's name, their message and other account details. This site reads only the verification token, the transaction reference and the amount, and throws the rest away. That is why you type a name here instead of having your Ko-fi one used. A name should only go public because somebody chose to put it there.
Payments
Handled entirely by Ko-fi and their payment providers. This site never sees your card details, your email address or your billing information, and cannot charge you. Ko-fi's privacy policy covers what they hold. Donations support elif else, an independent and self-funded AI safety project. They are not refundable through this site; refunds are a matter for Ko-fi.
Analytics
Page views are counted with Umami, which is cookieless, does not track people between sites, does not store IP addresses and does not build a profile.
The public dataset
The dataset contains nothing about donors. Money arriving appears as an amount and a timestamp.
Names on the ticker
A name you submit is checked before it appears: a profanity filter, a check for links and contact details, a reserved name list and a content classifier. It may be refused or removed, and names impersonating a real person, company or this project will not be published.
Do not submit anything you would not want on a public page, and nothing belonging to somebody else. Submitting a name is a request, and it can be turned down.
Changing or removing your name
Just ask. Email gabriella@elifelse.org with enough detail to find the entry, such as the name shown and roughly when you donated. It can be changed, made anonymous, or removed completely. The donation itself stays, since it was really paid.
Who this is for
This site is not intended for children. If you struggle with gambling, a page that animates a slot machine all day is probably not a good place to spend time, even a simulated one. Liability
The site and the dataset are provided without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, elif else is not liable for any loss arising from using either. Nothing here limits liability where the law does not permit it to be limited. These terms may change; the date at the top says when they last did.
